MY WRITING JOURNEY:
A CHRONICLE OF MY SHORT STORIES
BY: JOSEPH A. MONACHINO
“My Writing Journey: A Chronicle of My Short Stories” is a collection of
some of the short stories I’ve written in the last few years. The stories are an eclectic mix of genres ranging from Science Fiction to Crime Thrillers.
They are easy to read.
In composing a collection of my works, I can share them in one book with those who find an interest in reading my, what I hope are, riveting, compelling and provocative stories.
MY BIO
I am 60 years old, married, and a resident of Mississauga (Ontario, Canada). My interest in writing dates back to when I was a child and an avid reader of newspapers, then magazines and books.
“The Transporting Device” is my first book. It has been rewritten as a short film script, called “The Traverse Device”. It has been awarded with 3 awards, namely: Best short script in the Film Nest, Script Symphony, and Delta International Screenplay Contests
I have written a follow-up to this story, “Brigid II: The Transporting Device Is Reinvented”, which is my second book. I have also written the second sequel called, “Brigid II: The Contraband Caper”.
I have written many entries in the Mississauga Writers Group’s “Word Fest” book series.
I am currently seeking to have my latest story, “Water Fate”, produced into a motion picture. It was awarded as quarterfinalist in the Sunvale Screenplay Contest. My script, called “Jackpot!”, has been produced into a 22-minute film. It has won an award for Best Short Film in the Indie Film Festival.
I graduated, with Honours, from the Sales and Marketing Certificate program of Sheridan College. My other hobbies and interests include long distance walking, Classic Rock, playing softball, watching movies, and of course writing.
I have had several Letters to the Editor published in local newspapers over the years. Several years ago, I won a creative writing contest. I was 1 of 15 winners out of many entrants. My career goal is to become an independent author.
I wrote a monthly column for the Peel Weekly News, called: “Focus on Film Forum”, from 2019 to 2022. It focused in on current events, personalities and companies that take place or operate in Mississauga, Peel Region, and the GTA. . In 2020, I was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Mississauga Writers Group. I am the Director of Marketing and Promotions.

The Transporting Device is a compelling Science-Fiction story about a university professor who invents a device which creates instantaneous travel from a person’s current location to any desired destination in the world without airport hassles.
Imagine something that can instantly transfer you to wherever you desire to go, as long as the locale’s data is stored inside the device. That’s the jumping-off point of a self-published sci-fi short story, The Transporting Device, written by
Mississauga resident Joseph A. Monachino.
